Posted

Peter “Pops” George Reyes, 85, of Shiloh, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, his family announced with heavy hearts. He was born on November 30, 1939, in Tampa, Florida, the son of the late Peter and Ophelia Reyes. Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Peter spent 40 years as a diesel machinist for the Illinois Central Railroad in New Orleans, Louisiana, dedicating his skills and hard work to the job he loved. His passion for life extended far beyond his profession, as he was known for his infectious laughter and the warmth he shared with everyone he met. Indeed, Peter never knew a stranger; he made friends wherever he went. Peter was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, a role that reflected his commitment to community and faith. He had a love for sports, especially the New Orleans Saints and LSU. Peter also found joy in singing, dancing, and woodworking.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara; their daughters, Laurie (Raymond) Templett, Terri (Glenn) Templett and Jennifer (John) Steinkoenig; and his cherished grandchildren, Glenn Jr, Shannon, Amanda, Matthew, Raymond III, Jordan and Joel. He will be remembered by his 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ejericho Fernandez, and his son-in-law John Steinkoenig.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2315 Pickwick St., Savannah, on Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow. Interment will then be held at the Our Lady of the Lake Columbarium, 10645 Hwy 57, Counce.
