Monroe Cherry Sr.

Monroe Ellis Cherry Sr., 77, of Savannah, died Sunday, Oct. 10.

He was born in Hardin County, the son of Dorothy Hopson Cherry and the late Monroe Ellis Cherry. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Cherry, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Cherry was a produce manager at Save-A-Lot and a member of the Newton Church of Christ.

Services will be held today, Thursday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Bobby Clifford officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

In addition to his mother, Dorothy Cherry, he is survived by four daughters, Jacqueline Cherry of Bowling Green, Ky., Teresa Reid, Barbara Cherry and Linda Cherry, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Monroe E. Cherry Jr. of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fannie Cherry of Savannah and Mary Steele of Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Cherry; a brother, Forrest Eugene Cherry; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and great-grandmother, Mary Tatum.
