Maxine Phillips, 82, of Savannah, passed away on Monday, July 22, in Corinth, Mississippi. She was born on Nov. 20, 1941, in Cerro Gordo, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Elbert and Kate Howard Copeland.
On July 08, 2017, she was united in marriage to Russell J. Posternock, who survives.
Maxine owned Maxine’s House of Music for 40 years. She performed on the Doc Whitaker radio show at 11 years old. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. Maxine taught music, loved singing and played the piano for over 60 years. She played at Freedom River Media Ministry in Adamsville for many years.
She is survived by her husband Russell J. Posternock of Savannah, Tennessee; two nieces, Terri Garrison of Savannah, Tennessee and Jeanne King of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; nephew, Steve Copeland of Fort Myers, Florida; and three exchange students that were very close to her and they called her “mom,” Pavit from Sweden, Onintza from Germany, and Tanja from Germany.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her first husband, David Phillips; brother, Howard Copeland; and nephew, Tommy Copeland.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, July 27, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Larry Paul Rich and Gerald Duncan officiating. Burial followed at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Savannah.
