Max Qualls

Max Qualls departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the age of 81 years, 5 months 11 days.

He was born in Savannah, on July 2, 1931, the son of the late Lee and Maggie Mae Haggard Qualls. On Feb. 7, 1975, he was united in marriage to Patsy Ingle, who survives.

Max lived in Hardin County for most of his life. He was a member of East End Methodist Church and worked for the State of Tennessee Parks and Recreation Department. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for a total of 20 years. During his service he was a naval equipment repairman technician. Max loved drinking coffee with the McDonald’s "gang" and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patsy Ingle Qualls of Savannah; daughters, Terry Benson of Savannah, and Angela Swann of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Derick Benson of Savannah and Thomas Swann of Franklin, Tenn.; great-grandchild, Sophia Swann; sister, Betty J. Qualls Franks of Savannah; brother, John Hope Qualls of Huntsville, Ala.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Swann; grandson, Danny Shane Benson, great-grandson, Daniel Chase Benson; sister, Mary E. Qualls Hipsher; brothers, Kenneth Asbury Qualls and Larry McCoy Qualls.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Pastor Mary Foote officiating.
