Mary Jean Stewart, 85, was born in Hardin County on Oct. 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Willis Elbert and Retha Lucille Plunk Thorne. On May 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert Merle Stewart, who preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2010.
Mrs. Stewart was a seamstress for Harwood Manufacturing and later Garan Inc. She had many hobbies such as playing dominoes, jig-saw puzzles, sewing, quilting, crocheting, playing cards, gardening, flower gardening and she was an amazing cook. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Adamsville.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Ann Stewart Lewis of Savannah and Jane Elizabeth Stewart Sutton of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Randall Mark Lewis, Kevin Trent Lewis, ReDonna Lewis Davis, Andrea Sutton Puckett, and Krista Suzanne Lewis; great-grandchildren, Alicia Danielle Lewis Blackburn, Zane Allan Lewis, Joshua Raymond Franks, Rylan Xander Franks, Talan Jace Franks, Tristan Kade Franks and Jaden Bryce Puckett; great-great-grandchild, Knox Ryne Blackburn; and sister, Martha Thorne Winborn of East Peoria, Illinois.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Cleburne Isom Thorne, Hays Elbert Thorne and Paul Willis Thorne.
Services were held on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Bernard Blasingame, Bro. Phil Mitchell and Derek Westmoreland officiating. Burial followed in the Crump Cemetery at Crump.
