Lee Andrew Qualls Jr. (2-15-18) service 3-4-18

Lee Andrew Qualls Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 15, at his home in Fair Oaks, California, due to complications from a stroke.
Lee Jr. was born in Hardin County on June 29, 1928. His parents were Lee Andrew Sr. and Lorene Bivens Qualls.
Lee Jr. was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Jimmy and Eddie; and sister Nancy Qualls Hilburn.
Lee is survived by wife, Nancy Byers Qualls; brother, Billy (Marilyn) Qualls of Savannah; Aunt Eldora Blackburn of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Locally he is survived by nephews, Ken and Chris (Ruthie) Qualls; niece, Janet Qualls (Ricky) Hardin of Buford, Georgia; great-nephew, Dr. Brian Qualls; and great nieces, Lauren Qualls Harbin and Julianne Qualls Fowler; plus several great nephews and nieces; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
Lee graduated from Savannah Central High in 1946. He went to work for Brown Shoe Company from 1946 until 1948.
Lee joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and served his country during the Korean War. Lee Jr.’s younger brothers followed Lee’s good example by likewise joining the U.S. Air Force.
The Korean War was a time when the Air Force used the A-10 aircraft. Lee was an equipment specialist. He helped maintain the A-10 aircraft, also known as “The Tank Killer.”
Lee left the Air Force in 1952 and moved to San Bernadino, California. He was employed in the private support sector of Norton Air Force base.
Lee met his bride of 61 years, Nancy Byers. Lee and Nancy were married on Nov. 16, 1957, at St. Johns Episcopal Church in San Bernadino, California.
Lee and Nancy moved to Fair Oaks, California, in 1966. Lee continued to work as an equipment specialist in private sector support for the Air Force. Nancy helped market some of the first microwave ovens by Amana to be sold.
Lee and Nancy were active in their church until his death. They shared the wonderful gifts of generosity, charity and hospitality with the Qualls family of Hardin County.
Lee and Nancy were great tour guides showing California’s beauty and “tourist can’t miss” hotspots. Lee could get his guests from a Pacific Ocean beach to a San Francisco Giants baseball  game and then to Disneyland or a Yosemite Mountain trout stream in his 1965 Pontiac GTO muscle car in amazing time.
Uncle Lee was a faithful attendee for his local Qualls families “Big” events. Lee made great effort to be a part of sporting events, graduations, funerals, weddings and reunions.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, March 4, at the St. Thomas A Becket Church in Elk Grove, California.
