Laura Qualls May Laura Katherine Qualls May was born in Savannah, on April 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Hobart and Annie Thelma "Dutchie" Byrd Qualls. On Feb. 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ralph May, who preceded his wife in death on May 14, 1981. Mrs. May worked for 32 years for State Farm Insurance where she was an agent and office manager. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where at the age of 17 she was a member of the church choir until 2007. Mrs. May was also a member of the Eastern Star. She departed this life on Friday, Nov. 16, in Savannah, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 24 days. Mrs. May is survived by her son, Jack Edwin May and his wife Judy of Savannah; two grandchildren, Christy May True and her husband Jody of Hernando, Miss., and John Wesley May of Savannah. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. May was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy May Blurton; one son in law, Tommy Blurton; and two brothers, Leck Qualls and his wife Frankie, and Keith Qualls and his wife Maxine. Services were held on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Dr. Ron Brown, Paul Woodford officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
