Larry Gene Sowell, 78, of Shiloh, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30. He was born on Dec. 7, 1945 in Michie, Tennessee, the son of the late Lawrence and Eva Oberia White Sowell.

On Aug. 15, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sharron Mitchell Sowell, who survives.

Larry was a route salesman for Wonder Bread for 32 years. He was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Union and Living Word Fellowship Church. Larry previously worked for Douglas and Lomason in Marianna, Arkansas, Securitas Security Services USA, Incorporate, and Packaging Corporation of America for 15 years.

He loved fishing, hunting, his mother’s chocolate pie, black walnut ice cream, watching Westerns, and teaching his grandchildren to love horses as much as he did. Larry was a loving and caring husband and father. He was a hard worker and believed in following the rules.

He is survived by his wife, Sharron Kaye Sowell of Shiloh; son, Timothy Gene Sowell (Traci) of Bossier City, Louisiana; daughter, Melanie Kaye Brown Lee of Columbus, Mississippi; brother, Ricky Sowell of Crump; sister, Elizabeth Ann Hill of Adamsville; sisters-in-law, Debbie Sowell of Savannah, Martha Sowell of Pickwick, and Millie Hill of Olive Branch, Mississippi; brothers-in-law, Beulah Griffin of Wiggins, Mississippi, and Billy McMahan (Glenda) of Kaufman, Texas; grandchildren, Blake and Shelby Sowell of Bossier City, Louisiana, Adam Mitchell (Gabbie) of Savannah, Larry Joe Brownlee (Abbie) of Columbus, Mississippi, and Joshua Brownlee (Jessica) of Hamilton, Mississippi; and great-grandchildren, Owen and Noah Mitchell of Savannah, Kipton Brownlee of Columbus, Mississippi, Thomas Nanny of Hamilton, Mississippi, Skylynn Sowell, and Serenity Davis both of Bossier City, Louisiana.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death his brother, Jimmy Neal Sowell; grandparents, David Sowell, Mary Elizabeth Sowell, Ivan Washington, and Nona White; father-in-law, Hubbert Mitchell, mother-in-law, Mildred Mitchell; sisters-in-law; Billye Hendrix and Louise Montague; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Larry Mitchell.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Ronnie Sanders officiating. Burial follow at West Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Stantonville, Tennessee.
