Jewel Wilkerson (10-2-12) service 10-4-12

Jewel Maxine Dale Wilkerson, 88, of Savannah, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2.

She was born in Winston County, Ala., on Feb. 23, 1924, the daughter of the late Elo Clayton and Annie Eitson Dale. She was united in marriage to John Robert Wilkerson on May 14, 1948, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her first-born infant son, Johnny Steve; brothers, Harvey, Morris, Pat, and Maynard; and sister, Jeanette Narramore.

Mrs. Wilkerson, "Nonnie" to most, worked in the Ball Band Factory in Mishawaka, Ind., during World Word II as a riveter on helicopters and submarines. She also was employed by Hardin Home and Hardin County Hospital. But, she was best known and loved for the care of her family and for her deep faith in Christ. As a young woman, she sacrificially cared for the children of two brothers who suffered tragedies in their own lives. She was a member of Living Waters Foursquare Church in the Swift community having served there since 1967.

She is survived by her children: David Wilkerson and wife Nancy of Watertown, Tenn.; Rebecca Cole and husband Richard of College Grove, Tenn.; and Debbie Campbell and husband Tom of Savannah; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister Angle Dale Bronk of Phoenix, Ariz., sisters-in-law Jane Wilkerson and Jenny Thrasher of Savannah, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services to celebrate her life were held at Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. with Pastor James Fitts officiating. Burial followed in the Graham Cemetery at Savannah.

The family wishes to extend grateful appreciation to Dr. Janet Cromwell, the activity department, nurses and staff of Hardin Medical Center Health and Rehab and Hardin Medical Center for the loving care she received during the last five months. Also, thanks are given to Living Waters Foursquare Church family for their loving care and support through many years.
