Jackie Lyndell Lay Matlock was born in Savannah on June 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Jack and Edith Almyra Austin Lay.
On August 21, 1956, she was united in marriage to J.D. Matlock who preceded his wife in death on Jan. 29, 2010.
Mrs. Matlock worked for Brown Shoe Company and also had worked for Dillon Manufacturing and Grady George Grocery. She was a member of Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Matlock loved traveling, canning vegetables and making jellies. She never met a stranger and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Matlock departed this life on Monday, Aug. 11, in Savannah, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 22 days.
She is survived by her two sons, Johnny Dean Matlock and his wife Bobbie and Ronny Lyn Matlock and his wife Cindy, all of Savannah; five grandchildren, Jessica Matlock Davey and her husband Mel of Hermitage, Tenn., Daniel Matlock and his wife Ashley, Ryan Matlock, Ashley Matlock and Austin Matlock, all of Savannah; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Copeland and Abigail Copeland, both of Savannah; three sisters, Shirley Mathis of Chattanooga, Myra Gates of Lafayette, Ga., and Sharon Richter of Savannah.
Services were held on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jim Wright and Tommy Jack Worley officiating. Burial followed in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery at Savannah.
