Irene Carroll

Irene Carroll was born in Hardin County, on March 3, 1929, the daughter of the late William Mancil and Louise Wood.

On May 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gene Carroll, who preceded his wife in death on Nov. 4, 1981.

Mrs. Carroll was a homemaker. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Carroll loved her family, her home and her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, yard work, gardening and was very active in her church all of her life.

Mrs. Carroll departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Savannah, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 4 days.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Wardlow and her husband Randall of Counce; one son, Dennis Carroll and his wife Vicki of Counce; two grandchildren, Kristi Byrd and her husband Alan and Kirk Nix and his wife Wendi; eight great-grandchildren, Alec Byrd, Adam Byrd, Cole Nix, Aidan Byrd, Katy Carroll Nix, Anna Byrd, Caroline Nix and Chloe Nix; three brothers, Bobby Wood, Ray Wood and his wife Barbara, and Kenneth Wood and his wife Cathy, all of Counce; two sister-in-laws, Nancy Wood of Counce and Barbara Ann Wood of Michie.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Donny, David, Roy and W.M. Wood Jr.

Services were held on Friday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m., at Center Hill Baptist Church in Counce with Chester Wayne Harrison, Keith Driskell officiating. Burial followed in the Center Hill Cemetery at Counce.
