Homer Arlie Turnbow, of Savannah, was born in Wayne County on Oct. 2, 1931, the son of the late Hugh Arthur and Fanny Ada Depriest Turnbow. He was united in marriage to Johnie Louise Harris Turnbow on June 12, 1953, who preceded him in death.
Homer departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 28 days.
Homer was a member of New Pleasant Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He worked for Industrial Exterminating Company for more than 30 years. Homer enjoyed working on lawnmowers, and trading his friends and family out of guns and knives. He enjoyed his family and friends coming to visit especially his grandchildren.
Homer is survived by his daughter, Sandra Bowen and her husband Freddy of Savannah; son, Doug Turnbow and wife Teresa of Savannah; brother-in-law, L.C. Harris and wife Judy of Savannah; grandchildren, Jeremy Bowen and wife Jana, and Tonia Bowen, all of Savannah, Molly Cherry and husband Shayne of Henderson, Tennessee, and Chris Turnbow of Dickson, Tennessee; stepgrandchildren, Daniel Shirley and wife Mae of Statesboro, Georgia and Cody Shirley of Savannah; a great-grandchild, Henry Bowen; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Jon Micheal Cherry.
Along with his parents and his wife Louise of 64 years, Homer was preceded in death by his brothers, Harl, Roscoe, Richard, Clyde and Leland Turnbow; sisters, Nellie Barber, Lillian McGlaughlin, Ruby Sollis and Altie Cohen.
Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Chad Balentine and Carl Copeland officiating. Burial followed in Sardis Cemetery at Sardis.
