Helen Meredith (1-11-14) service 1-17-14

Helen Whitlow Meredith was born in Savannah on Jan. 13, 1936, the daughter of the late Raymond Elgin and Margaret Jerrolds Whitlow.
On Aug. 10, 1961, she was united in marriage to Thomas Jefferson “T. J.” Meredith, who preceded his wife in death on Aug. 10, 2004.
Mrs. Meredith graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her nursing career spanned more than four decades, working as a registered nurse in Memphis, and in Greenville, Miss., teaching nursing at Moorehead Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College, eventually completing her career in nursing working in public health for Shelby County.
Together, she and T. J. enjoyed playing tennis, watching sports and sailing on Pickwick Lake. She looked forward to the frequent scenic road trips taken with her sisters, mother and cousin throughout Middle and East Tennessee. She remained close to her childhood and college friends, enjoying frequent reunions and lengthy phone conversations. Her neighbors at “Lands of Pickwick” are a family, in and of itself, for both Helen and T. J. Taking care of the pool, checking in on others and others checking in on them displayed the love and caring that every person would hope to have in the community in which they live.
They landed in the perfect spot; the place they were destined to be. As a teenager, Helen professed her faith as Christ as her Savior at Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Helen was currently attending Counce First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Pickwick Republican Women and enjoyed attending all their functions.
Mrs. Meredith departed this life Saturday, Jan. 11, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 29 days.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Meredith Pincomb and her husband Reid of Madison, Ala.; and two sisters, Janey Whitlow Adams and Sue Whitlow Williams, both of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Meredith was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie and Jim Whitlow.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Dr. Ken Story officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hermon Cemetery in Hardin County.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Counce First Baptist Church, Darryl Worley Foundation or the charity of  preference.
