Freddie B. Jenkins

Freddie B. Jenkins was born May 12, 1931, in Counce, the son of the late Thomas Henry and Mary Hazel Wood Jenkins.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Brewer on Dec. 23, 1957. Mrs. Jenkins preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1977. They had three children, two sons, Thomas Dale Jenkins and wife Carol of Henderson, Tenn., Freddie O’Neal Jenkins and wife Chris of Selmer; a daughter, Debbie Exum and husband Mike of Selmer; eight grandchildren, Chad Jenkins of Covington, Tenn., Amanda Young and husband James of Covington, Tenn., Jennifer Jenkins of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Jeffrey Exum and wife Angie of Lebanon, Tenn., Jason Exum of Selmer, Lewis Grier of Walnut Grove, Christopher Grier and wife Emily of Selmer, John Grier of Belton South, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by a brother, F.R. Jenkins.

Freddie lived most of his life in Selmer after having served 10 years in the United States Air Force. He worked construction with his family until he reached retirement, at which time he began working part-time for Inman Brothers’ Wrecker Service. He later worked for Moore Brothers’ Trucking Company up until he had to retire due to health problems, leaving behind a genuine true friend and boss, Donnie Moore. Freddie was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church in Counce. Freddie loved working in the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, April 5, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer with Zolon Clayton officiating. Burial followed in the Center Hill Cemetery at Counce.
