Clarence Elmer Thompson departed this life in Olive Hill on Friday, May 15, at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 28 days.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1941, in Chase City, Virginia, son to the late Clarence LaFayette and Sue Catherine Orr Thompson. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Lee Curtis on May 2, 2009, who survives.
Clarence was retired as a Lt. Commander from the United States Navy after 22 dedicated years of service. He has lived in Savannah since 2008, and was also a member of Crump United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Scotts Hill.
Mr. Thompson was a former boy scout and troop leader. He loved his blueberry garden and all types of gardening. He was also considered to be a jack-of-all-trades.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Elmer Wayne Thompson and his wife Dena of Sherwood, Tennessee; stepdaughter, Cheryll Wuelfing and her husband Eric of Morris Chapel; sisters, Clara Gillette of Franklin, Virginia and Rebecca Delbridge and her husband Albert of Virginia; brother, Dana Thompson and his wife Gina of Florida; grandchildren, Brandon Duft, Morgan Thompson Pittman and her husband Logan, Kelsey Duft, Christopher Duft, and Weston Thompson; step-grandchildren, Josh Wuelfing and his wife Carmen, Samantha Prior, and Tristan Russom; great-grandchild, Sheniece Duft; and step-great-grandchildren, Bella and Charlie Russom, Brandon Duncan and Ashley Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Brandon Thompson.  
Memorial services will be held today, Thursday, May 21,  at 1 p.m., at Crump United Methodist Church in Crump, with Bro. Steve Webb officiating.
