Billy Elam, 84, of Savannah, departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 11. He was born on Sept. 13, 1940, the son of the late Oather Lee and Lillie Eaker Elam.
On Nov. 21, 1965, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hardin, who survives.
Mr. Elam honorably served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He formerly lived in Memphis, Tennessee and worked for Kizer Flooring and Sears. Billy would later move to Savannah, Tennessee, where he owned and operated Savannah Carpet Company until his retirement. He was a member of Savannah Church of Christ. Billy loved his family, church, and many friends with all of his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Elam; daughter, Cindy Elam; son, Brad Elam (deceased); grandchildren, Malory Berry (Clint), Braxton Garrard, and Landon Garrard; and great-grandchild, Briggs Berry.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, James Elam, and sister, Shirley Templeton.
Memorial donatiions may be made to Park Rest Nursing Home, Savannah, Tennessee or the American Parkinson Association.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Savannah Church of Christ in Savannah, with Barry Binion officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens in Savannah.
