Bert Phillips
Bert Phillips, 92, of Savannah, died on Saturday, March 23.
He was born in Adamsville, the son of the late Willis Freling and Emma Bell Surratt Phillips. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Wood, who survives.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Navy during WWII for four years. He was in the Pacific for 2-1/2 years and was a chief petty officer. On returning home, he became a rural carrier, from which he retired, and the owner of Phillips Plumbing. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, and VFW where he was commander.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 26, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Helen Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie Phillips of Savannah, he is survived by a daughter, Gail Fondren of Savannah; a son, Bobby Phillips of Savannah; three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Voletta Shaw, Mary Young and Gazelle Roberts; brothers, Boyce and Travis Phillips; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.
