Arnold Phillips (7-11-18) service 7-15-18

Arnold Phillips, of Adamsville, departed this life on Wednesday, July 11, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 24 days.

He was born in Hardin County on July 17, 1926, the son of the late Tommy Calvin and Hattie Lee Kemp Phillips. He was united in marriage to Doris Alene Durham on Jan. 20, 1951, who preceded him in death on March 16, 1993. On June 21, 2003, he was united in marriage to Sue Meek, who survives.

Arnold served in the United States Army and later worked at Garan Manufacturing as a pattern maker for 38 years.  He was a member of East End United Methodist Church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church and First United Baptist Church in Adamsville. Arnold enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, especially his banana pudding, and mowing and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Droke Phillips of Adamsville; daughters, Betty Jo Dunne of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Tommie Dorlene Rodgers and husband James of Hernando, Mississippi, Kena Hamm and husband Kyle, and Kelly Brasher and husband Greg, all of Adamsville; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Forsyth of Selmer; half-sisters, Linda Wicker of Oakland, Tennessee, Kay Ivy of Jacks Creek, Tennessee, and Peggy Bishop of Morris Chapel; and half-brother, Billy Phillips of Adamsville.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Maggie Buchanan, Muriel Jones, Mabel Wicker and Ruth Forsyth; brothers, Hayse Phillips, Ray Phillips, Karl Joe Phillips; half-brother, Danny Phillips; stepmother, Jewel Irene Phillips; and son-in-law, Mike Dunne.

Services were held on Sunday, July 15, at 3:30 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Phil Mitchell and Greg Brasher officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill Memorial Garden at Adamsville.
