    Join Shiloh National Military Park for a special Junior Ranger Camp. We will be learning how to become Junior Archeologists and Paleontologists. Each Junior Ranger will receive an Archeology Junior Ranger Patch, a Junior Ranger Paleontologists Badge, and have a chance to find a real fossil!

    The program starts at our Civil War Interpretive Center located in Corinth, MS at 10:00 AM and will end at 12:00 PM.

    Participation in this camp is free to registered Junior Rangers and their Guardians, register today by calling 731-689-5696. We are limited to only 50 Junior Rangers (parents and guardians are always welcome but are not counted as part of the 50) for this camp.

    Ranger Timothy Arnold will lead a hike titled, “In Hell Before Night: Pugh’s Brigade at the Peach Orchard.”

    During the first day of the Battle of Shiloh, Colonel Isaac Campbell Pugh, a Kentucky native and veteran of the Blackhawk and Mexican Wars, took command of a brigade in General Hurlbut’s Division, when his commander fell wounded in Sarah Bell’s cotton field. Follow Park Ranger Arnold as he details the officers and men that fought under Colonel Pugh’s direction and learn about the struggles they faced defending against multiple fierce Confederate attacks.

    Pre-registration is required and space on the program can be reserved by calling the Shiloh Visitor Center at 731-689-5696 any day of the week between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

    Pickwick Landing State Park has several invasive plant species that we are working to control the spread of, one of which being Chinese privet. Please volunteer to help us remove privet a park area.

    Please wear closed toe shoes, and bring water. We will have gloves and tools, though you are welcome to bring your own work gloves.

    On Saturday, September 30, and Sunday October 1, the park will present cannon firing demonstrations, ranger led talks, and a special artifact exhibit featuring items and weapons of the 14th Missouri/66th Illinois Regiment, also known as Birge’s Western Sharpshooters.

    Civil War cannon firing demonstrations will take place behind Battery Robinett. Learn about the equipment, ordnance, and duties of 19th century artillerists. See and hear a 6-pounder Field Piece being fired.

      On Saturday, September 30, and Sunday October 1, the park will present cannon firing demonstrations, ranger led talks, and a special artifact exhibit featuring items and weapons of the 14th Missouri/66th Illinois Regiment, also known as Birge’s Western Sharpshooters.

      Civil War cannon firing demonstrations will take place behind Battery Robinett. Learn about the equipment, ordnance, and duties of 19th century artillerists. See and hear a 6-pounder Field Piece being fired.
