‘Grease’ spills on stage March 17-19 at Historic Savannah Theater

After hours, days, weeks of grueling, difficult rehearsals, the spring DreamCatchers Youth Theater show is opening next weekend at the Historic Savannah Theater on Court Square.
Tell me more, tell more, what did you just say? Tell me more, tell more – OK, “Grease” is the play!
Well, “Grease, School Version” to be completely accurate, edited with kids in mind and to be a fun, family-friendly G-rated version of the hit movie and award winning musical.
Have no fear, however, because while the writers edited out adult themes and content, what they did not remove are the rockin’ and rollin’ songs the Boomer generation still enjoys.
Opening day is Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday show on March 18 at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
DreamCatchers Youth Theater was formed several years ago by community theater troupe DreamWeavers of West Tennessee, which produces two youth shows every spring to introduce kids and teens to the wonders of live theater on stage.
DreamCatchers is for youth in grades 6-12. The other kids theater group is DreamSpinners, for children in grades 2-5, with actors from around 7- to 11-years-old.
For those who don’t know their “Grease” basics, a new school year is beginning at Rydell High School, 1959.
Sandy, the new girl at school and Danny, the leader of the “Burger Palace Boys,” had a brief romantic fling over the summer.
Sandy recounts her version of the fling to her new friends, the “Pink Ladies,” and Danny tells his friends the “Boys” his version, through the song “Summer Nights.”
Sandy and Danny soon bump into each other at school, and while Sandy is happy to see him, he plays it cool.
The rest of the show is a story of high school romance, with all of its ups and downs, friendships, and making the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood – but with a hot rod, a high school hop (or dance, as the old folks used to call them), and some great songs that cast and audience members will be singing or humming long after the show.
Tickets for “Grease, School Version” are available now at the front counter of The Courier, at 375 Main St., during normal business hours, or online at www.showtix4u.com/events/1309.
Tickets for the kids shows usually go quickly, so get them while you can.
Ticket sales at The Courier usually end on Tuesday or Wednesday the week of the show, and online by Wednesday or Thursday a day or two prior to the show, to avoid overselling.

The cast of “Grease” were talented and put on a great show. Bob Brown is the director and put together a wonderful show. Sunday’s matinee show was a near sell out and was interrupted many times with applause. Congratulations to the cast and crew of DreamWeavers youth group.
