Amber Hicks-Gordon (2-9-23) service 2-26-23
Amber Michelle Hicks-Gordon, 30, of Monroe County, Mississippi, formerly of Selmer, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Water Valley, Mississippi. She was born in Selmer on Jan. 1, 1993, to Carrie Turner (Hicks) Perrigin & John Shannon Hicks and was the (chosen/adopted) daughter of Sammy D. Gordon.
Ms. Hicks-Gordon grew up in Monroe County, Mississippi, and she was a graduate of Smithville High School. Her fun and quirky personality helped her excel in many things. She was a part of the SHS marching band, color guard and cheerleading squad. After high school, she set off to start her career in the hair industry. She graduated from Booneville Academy of Cosmetology in 2012 and spent most of her time working as a cosmetologist in Saltillo, Mississippi. She took much pride in her work and was truly gifted in making people feel and look beautiful. When she was not working as a hairstylist, she served at Lone Star Schooner Bar & Grill. She was driven in taking care of others and that showed as she waitressed. She created friendships and bonds that she held onto tightly.
She was a passionate and beautiful soul who showed kindness to each person she met. She was not one to ever meet a stranger. In fact, many of those who met Amber were considered family to her. One particular family, the Barnes from Mantatchie, Mississippi, was very close to her heart. From the moment they came into her life, her family began to grow. Amber was able to form valuable friendships over the course of her short 30 years. Each person she met in this life was precious to her, and there is absolutely no doubt that she remembered every single one.
Her days were spent talking, laughing, singing and enjoying life. She loved a good karaoke night. As a 90’s baby, it’s no wonder that some of her favorite sounds came from Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, The Cranberries, Nirvana and many more. On a summer day, you would find her in a swimming pool blasting some of her favorite tunes. Amber lived her life to the absolute fullest.
Left behind to treasure her memories are her mother, Carrie Turner Perrigin (Richard) of Columbus, Mississippi; her father, John S. Hicks of Clarksville, Tennessee; her favorite and only sister, Darby B. Armstrong (Phillip) of Amory, Mississippi, and their children; her nephews, Kipton and Rigsby; her adopted father and grandfather, Sammy D. Gordon of Tupelo, Mississippi; her maternal grandparents, Robert Steve “Bo” Turner (Pamela) Amory; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was met at The Gates by her grandmother, Pam Alsup Gordon; great-grandmother, Carol Janice Alsup; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Lester “Red & Obine” Turner; great-uncle, William Devan Turner; and cousin, Nathan Andrew Logan
Celebration of life services were held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Forward Church in Amory, Mississippi. Burial followed at Haughton Memorial Park with Pallbearers being her uncle, Matt Turner; cousins, Micah Turner, Ryan Alsup and Justin Logan; a close friend, Josh Pickle; and dearest family friend, John Bryan Barnes.
