College Street car show Saturday benefits local Carl Perkins Center

The first Cars on College Street benefit car show will be held this weekend in Savannah’s Historic District.
The fundraising event for Hardin County’s Carl Perkins Center is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts of Savannah and Hosea Wholesale and takes place at 170 College St.
Hosea Wholesale proprietor Brad Hosea often participates in fundraising events for the community, but said this event is personal.
“I love cars and motorcycles, I am on the board of the Carl Perkins Center and I live on College Street, so after my neighbors agreed, I began organizing the fundraiser for the center,” Hosea said.
“We want everyone to come out, have fun and enjoy viewing classic and other vehicles worthy of showcasing,” he added.
Hosea said the Carl Perkins Center is a worthy cause because it provides its services and programs for free.
“The center never charges anyone needing their help and we are currently helping more than 200 kids in the county,” he said.
The Carl Perkins Center provides support to families in preventing and handling child abuse in Hardin County. The center’s goal is to help both parents and children meet their needs of preserving and improving their family life.
Programs for children include a 24-hour hotline, victim advocacy services, forensic interview services and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. The center also offers parenting skills group classes, care giving support groups and a relative caregiver program to prevent children from entering the foster care system.
The Cars on College benefit is on Saturday, July 16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In addition to the car show there will be music, food from Marcus Cherry BBQ, prizes and giveaways.
The event is free for spectators and there is a $25 entry fee for vehicle participants.
“I want donors to know that 100% of the funds raised will go to the center. Every dollar will go to the cause,” said Hosea.
