Pusser Festival kicking off with car show Saturday, music festival coming June 4

The 34th annual Sheriff Buford Pusser Festival, hosted by the Sheriff Buford Pusser Museum, will be different than years past.
The full event is usually held over Memorial Day weekend, but due to issues finding a large and safe carnival provider, plans were made to alter the schedule, an organizer said.
“We know to get back to our normal large turnout we will need a big carnival, and have plans to use the same company that the Hardin County fair uses next year,” said Tina Mullis, museum curator.
This year only the car show takes place over the holiday weekend, on Saturday, May 28 at 8 a.m. The car show is hosted by Shiloh Area Street Rods and will be held at Adamsville City Park behind Jack’s restaurant.
The bus tour and Music Fest will also be at the city park, but during the following weekend, on Saturday, June 4.
The bus tour begins at 8 a.m. and takes riders on points of interest in McNairy County including ambush sites, Buford Pusser crash site, Tennessee/Mississippi state line and Pusser’s grave site, as well as movie film sites in Chester County.
The Music Fest starts at 3 p.m., with Georgette Jones, who is the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, headlining.
“We are going to have awesome entertainment including Ezella Robinson, who is different from past performers as she is very soulful, singing gospel and contemporary Christian songs,” said Mullis.
Next year the museum plans to have all of the Buford Pusser Festival events on the same weekend.
No future date has been set, but it will not occur over the Memorial Day weekend due to the City of Adamsville’s request to not have its employees work long hours over the holiday, according to Mullis.
