Water line break prompts precautionary boil water notice: Savannah Utility Department

UPDATE MAY 13– The Savannah Utility Department advises that the precautionary boil water notice has now expired.

ORIGINAL STORY, MAY 11– Due to a recent water line break, the Savannah Utility Department is notifying water customers in the vicinity of Tenn. 69 south of the intersection of Tenn. 69 and Pyburns Drive. This includes the Walnut Grove community and many surrounding areas.

Precautionary Boil Water Notice is being issued to all customers in the affected area. Until further notice, water customers in these areas are advised to boil their water prior to using it for drinking or food preparation. As a precaution, customers should take the following steps:

  1. Prior to boiling, the water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove any sediment or floating material.
  2. The water should then be heated to a vigorous boil, and the rolling boil should be for one minute to insure disinfection.
