Elizabeth Newell (5-7-22) service 5-14-22

Elizabeth “Momma Ann” Newell departed this life on Saturday, May 7, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 18 days.
She was born in Hardin County on July 19, 1940, the daughter of the late Jim and Lillian Climer Webb. On July 25, 1958, she was united in marriage to George “Sonny” Newell, who preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1990.
Throughout her life, Ann had worked at various places, Savannah Career Center for several years, Cumberland Valley Shows for over 10 years, DBH Attachments as a truck driver for six years, and Pickwick Southside as a teachers aide for six years. She loved attending Bingo at Counce Senior Citizens Center and attended church at Pisgah United Methodist Church and Childers Hill Pentecostal Church.
Ann loved reading, sewing, and attending sports activities. In her earlier years, she traveled to visit family and friends. She and her husband raced Sulky Roadcart ponies. Ann won just as many ribbons as he did, if not more. She was very independent, not wanting anyone to help her, but loved helping others…appropriately nicknamed “Momma Ann” because she mothered all children. She never met a stranger and was loved by all.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Donna Montgomery of Counce and Lisa Gray and her husband Dan of Ramer; grandchildren, Christopher (Trisha) Newell, Chaz (Deena) Montgomery, Amanda (Josh) Sanders, J.D. Gray and Callie Jo (Dillon Eaker) Thomas; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Newell, Chris Jr. Newell, Cash Eaker, Grayson Sanders, Harper Sanders, Asher Sanders and baby boy Griggs Montgomery due June 2022; step great-grandchild, Patrick O’Conner; sister, Sue Box of Counce; in-laws, Mary Lou Newell, Carol Newell and Kaye Webb; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by her daughters, Janese Newell Edwards and Patricia Lynn “Tootie” Thomas; and brothers, Jimmy Webb and Tommy Jack Webb.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 3 p.m., at Childers Hill Pentecostal Church in Counce with Rex McGee and Pat Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery at Shiloh.
