Severe thunderstorm tears across Hardin County
Authorities in Hardin County are urging residents to stay off the road tonight in the wake of a severe thunderstorm which tore through the area.
Hardin County Director of Schools Michael Davis shortly before 8 p.m. announced schools will be closed Thursday, citing power outages and widespread storm damage.
The Savannah Police Department reports that officers are busy responding to multiple calls for service because of the storm system, and that several buildings have damage. Electrical and internet service at The Courier office was knocked out, downtown Savannah was dark, and traffic signals were inoperative. According to the Hardin County Fire Department, crews are working to clear roads of fallen trees across the county, and many places can expect to remain without electrical service Wednesday night.
Pickwick Electric Cooperative which serves areas of Hardin County west of the Tennessee River is reporting scattered outages “due to the extreme weather that has passed through this evening.”
This was very informative but only got internet and cable back last night at 11 pm.
When the power went out here in Olivehill, no one was answering the phone at TVEC electric. After over an hour of attempting to call, someone finally answered. It might be a good idea for the electric company to add more phone lines to its emergency phones so that people can at least get through, report the power being out & then know that help is on the way.
