Mary Ruth Ledbetter (2-5-22)

Mary Ruth Hargrove Ledbetter went to walk with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 5.
She was born Aug. 23, 1930, and raised in Savannah.  She is survived by her husband Alex and her two sons Billy, and his wife Wendy, and David Lee.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Jim and Mary Emma Laden Hargrove; and her siblings Edith, Leo, Anita and Annie Lou.
After an eight-year courtship, she married Alexander McDougal Ledbetter and they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary later this month. Their life together took them from Savannah through many adventures with stopovers in Memphis, Richmond, Bristol, Las Vegas, and finally Waynesboro where they lived since 1977.
Mary Ruth believed in being active and, when they were young, she could often be seen with her sons roller skating, riding minibikes, and doling out regular doses of “fly-swatter” and “cut-switch” discipline. Later in life her passions included reading her Bible, cooking dinner for her family, verbal sparring with Alex, riding her lawn mower at top speed, and the pursuit of the perfect eye brows and lipstick. Her energy and love for her family was endless.
Mary Ruth made many friends through the Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, Shields Par 3 Golf Course, local bowling league, and Waynesboro Order of the Eastern Star. Mary Ruth will be sorely missed by her many friends.
The family extends their gratitude to Valley Family & Elder Care, Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab, and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their excellent care of Mary Ruth in her later years.
There will not be a public burial service for Mary Ruth, but the family will announce a celebration of her life in the coming Spring of this year.
