Joel Turner, of Counce, departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

He was born in Houlka, Mississippi, on Feb. 17, 1929, the son of the late Emmett Turner and Sadie Ruth Winters. On July 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Frances Wages, who survives.

Joel served his country honorably in the United States Army. He went to Mississippi State where he received his master’s in mechanical engineering. Joel worked for Johnson Control as a territory sales manager. He had lived in Hardin County for the past 20 years and was a member of American Legion, First Baptist Church of Counce, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher for almost 20 years, and was a choir member. He loved to sing and enjoyed watching hummingbirds.

Joel is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances W. Turner of Counce; a son, Timothy Bryan Turner of Counce; grandchildren, Becky Conley, Daniel Conley, Joel Turner, Carey Turner, Shelly Harvill, Michelle Roberts, Greg January, Kim January; great-grandchildren,Wayne Replogle, Levi Harvill, Sarah Harvill, Jesse Harvill, Jayce Roberts, Owen Roberts, Abigail Turner, Taylor Turner and Tanner Conley; great-great-grandchildren, Aetha Replogle and John Baylor Harvill; and brothers, Noel Thomas Turner of Chattanooga and Robert William Turner of Memphis.

In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Turner Young; a son, Joel Thomas Turner; and sisters, Barbra Anne McMullin and Betty Gail Thomas.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Memphis.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Counce with Dr. Ken Story and Rev. Jimmie McChristial officiating. Burial followed in Shanghai Cemetery at Counce.
