Jerry Millard Prater, Clifton, was born April 15, 1950, in Clifton, the son of the late Millard Devergie and Ida Lou Jeter Prater. He married the former Wanda Lois Love, April 30, 1984.
Mr. Prater was a mechanic (actually a jack of all trades) and departed this life, Monday, Jan. 3, at his home at the age of 71 years, 8 months, 19 days.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Lois Love Prater, Clifton; sons, Trent Prater and Sam Prater, both of Clifton, and Daniel Bannan, wife, Sonya, Savannah; daughter, Joy Clemens, husband, Mark, Canton, Georgia; grandchildren, Jake Prater, Alex Bannan and Jon Alt and CharliAnne Clemens; brother, Mark Prater, Clifton; sisters, Laura Prater and Nancy Prater, both of Savannah; nieces and nephews, Tammi Gladwin, Tonya Hebert, Tyler Prater, Miranda Williams, Matt Prater, Elliot Prater, Zane Prater and Lesley Tidwell; 13 great-nieces and nephews and three great-great-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Mildred Prater.
Services were Friday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m., at Prater’s Chapel in Clifton, with Tracy Love officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County assisting the family.
Pallbearers were Trent Prater, Sam Prater, John Alley, Matt Prater, Terry Alley, John Parker and Daniel Bannan. Honorary pallbearers were Zane Prater, Elliot Prater and Tyler Prater.
