Verlee Young (12-6-21) service 12-9-21

Verlee Matlock Young, of Counce, was born in the Gilchrist Community in McNairy County, Tennessee on March 15, 1925, the daughter of the late Herbert Wilburn and Elizabeth Cooksey Matlock.
On Nov. 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to George Presley Young, who preceded his wife in death on Feb. 2, 1989.
Verlee was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Counce. She was a resident of Counce for the past 72 years.
Verlee departed this life on Monday, Dec. 6, in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 21 days.
She is survived by her children, Wilburn “Bud” Young and his wife Marie of Corinth, Mississippi and Annecia Conaghan and her husband Jim of Springfield, Tennessee; grandchildren, E.K. Blackwell III and wife Tammy, Michelle Blackwell, Andrea Clark, Allison Chambers and her husband Bryan, and Alan Young; great-grandchildren, Marissa Boyer and her husband Aaron, Brad Landin and his wife Emily, Ben Landin and Bre Lee, and Ethan Young; great-great-grandchildren, Carter Bright, Brooks Landin and Molly Kate Landin; and the Matlock girls, Kathy and Rebecca, her daily caregivers for the past three years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Loretta Blackwell; four sisters, Lillie Harper, Lou Dean Peak, Faye Garrison and Peggy Wilkes; and one brother, Lyman Hayes Matlock.
Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Counce with Paula Byrd officiating. Burial followed in White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam.
