Birdie Benson Steakley, 87, of Savannah, died on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Pulaski, Tennessee.
She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Fannie Hurley Benson.
Mrs. Steakley was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Savannah. She worked for Savannah Truck Stop, Wolfe’s Restaurant, Shaw’s Restaurant, Jerry’s Restaurant and Christopher’s Restaurant.
She is survived by her son, Donnie Michael of Savannah; sisters, Rosie Kelly of Savannah and Louise Kelly of Tupelo, Mississippi; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Morris; brothers, Albert Benson and Edward Benson; sisters, Charlene Jones and Bonnie Durham; and one infant sibling.

Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Olivet Baptist Church in Savannah with Ed Alexander officiating. Burial followed in Olive Hill Cemetery at Olive Hill.
