J.R. Melson (10-1-21) service 10-7-21

J.R. Melson, 85, of Collinwood, died on Friday, Oct. 1, in Savannah.
He was born in Lutts, the son of the late Marvin Taft and Clariss Perry Melson. He was united in marriage to Shirley Kate Stricklin, who survives.
Mr. Melson served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for Hassell-Hughes Lumber Company for 36 years and as a handyman in Lutts. He attended Abrams Chapel Church in Savannah.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Melson of Collinwood; sister, Barbara Melson of Savannah; brother, Hershel Melson of Savannah; a niece; and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nannie Marie Dickerson.
Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah with Daniel Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Lutts Cemetery at Lutts.
