Billy E. Smith, 75, of Clifton, died on Friday, Sept. 24.
He was born in Clifton, son of the late Alf and Rixie Gordon Smith.
Mr. Smith’s first job was a delivery route in a Pulaski Milk truck. He sold insurance for a time, then moved to Tru-Temper where he worked as a timber buyer. He later started his own company, S&V, where he made drum sticks and bar stool blanks. When he sold that he started another, Billy Smith Wood Products, where he produced a variety of articles but was best known for his rocking chairs.
He is survived by his wife Christine Ann “Christy” Burns Smith of Clifton; his son, David Smith; his two daughters, Anita Rose and Beth Witte; his sister, Edith Franks; and his brother, Fay Smith; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Templeton Smith; and his siblings, Walter Smith, Jack Smith, Carl Smith, Claud Smith, Glen Smith, Bobby Jean Smith and May Smith.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Revival Center in Clifton, Tennessee where Billy was a member.
Services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Shayne Riley and Tracy Love officiating. Burial followed in Prater’s Chapel Cemetery at Clifton.
