Lester “Les” Morton (8-21-21) service 9-22-21
Lester “Les” Eugene Morton, 91 years old, was called to the Lords House on Saturday, Aug. 21. He was a longtime resident, with his wife Aubeline “Abby,” of the Tennessee community at Pickwick Lake.
Les was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Steele, Missouri, son of the late William Levi Morton and Delola Morton. He grew up on the family farm. Graduating Grey Ridge High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948. After training, he was assigned to the USS Amphion, where he served as the postmaster for the U.S. fleet in the Mediterranean.
Upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy and returning home, he met our mom and they started their 68 year loving marriage. Les was compelled to chart a different career path from farming and chose accounting. Upon moving to Memphis he started a long and successful career in 1961 with Dobbs House Inc. Through several mergers including R.J Reynolds, Squib and Nabisco/Lifesavers, he retired in 1986. He was known throughout the organization as an honest, fair minded executive, that believed in the utmost integrity.
Les never missed one of his children’s baseball games, band concerts, school functions, brownie or cub scout events. He loved many family vacations to Florida and The Great Smoky Mountains, countless Sunday afternoon drives into the country, just spending time together. Whether it was helping to plan the street Christmas decoration contest, or organizing the company cooking team for the Memphis in May International B-B-Q contest, he always loved being in the middle of everything.
Les motivated his family, to be the best we could be, consoled us in our times of need and we never doubted his love. After moving to Pickwick, he joined First Baptist Church of Counce and served the Lord in many ways, including serving on the Building and Budget committee. Always known as a reliable source for sound advise, his many friends and family consulted him regularly. He will be sorely missed.
