Alice Slaughter (8-31-21) service 9-5-21
Alice Ables Slaughter, of Savannah, departed this life on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 10 days.
She was born in Hardin County on June 21, 1938, the daughter of the late George Albert and Veria Mae Murphy Ables. On Aug. 6, 1983, she was united in marriage to Carl Robert Slaughter, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2006.
Alice worked for the Texas Employment Commission in the claims department for 25 years. She was a member of Abundant Life Christian Church in La Marque, Texas. Alice was very helpful with her grandson’s home schooling – he graduated class of 2016. She enjoyed painting, candle making, crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and horseback riding.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Kim Thompson (Fay) of Savannah, Kay Geraci (Tom) of League City, Texas, Kathy Herbeck (Kelly) of Texas City, Texas, and Karen Maxwell (Michael) of Sante Fe, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Samantha Morris, Christina Shaffer, Mindy Carthrae, Amanda Maxwell and Ryan Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Kierra Thompson, Tristan Thompson, Caden Thompson, Hunter Thompson, Hannah Morris, Holly Morris, Jacob Armstrong, Mariah Cummings, Heather Armstrong and Braden Hermandez; and sister, Annie Haggard of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her infant sister, Lydia.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, Sept. 5, at Neill Cemetery in Savannah with Ronnie Sanders and Phillip Johnson officiating.
