Savannah church holding 14th annual school supply giveaway Saturday
School starts in Hardin County the first week in August, and kids will be needing supplies like pencils, glue and paper. They also need backpacks to carry their items.
A local church is donating 700 free backpacks and school supplies at its 14th annual “Back 2 School Bash,” while supplies last.
“We’re having a drive through give-away again this year,” noted Marvin Norris, pastor of Amazing Life Church.
More than 60 members of Amazing Life Church at 65 Thomas St. in Savannah have prepared for the event by purchasing new backpacks for the give-away on Saturday, July 24. It takes place at the church from 10 a.m. to noon.
Norris said there is no signing up or paperwork of any kind for parents to do, but children must be present with parent or guardian.
“A sack of school supplies will be handed off as each car drives slowly through the church parking lot. The car can stop long enough for each child to get out and pick out their own backpack, then get back in the car,” said Norris.
There are no refreshments this year.
“As a church, we enjoy doing this for our community. We are honored to have had this event all these years. We’ve given over 7,000 backpacks so far,” said Norris.
