Savannah Utility Department issues precautionary boil water notice

UPDATE, JUNE 20– The notice has now expired.

INITIAL STORY, JUNE 17— The Savannah Utility Department issued a precautionary boil water notice Thursday for a limited number of customers.
Due to a recent water line relocation, water customers in the Gant Lane service area are advised to boil their water prior to using it for drinking or food preparation until further notice, the department said.
Customers should take the following steps:
–Prior to boiling, the water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove any sediment or floating material.
–The water should then be heated to a vigorous boil, and the rolling boil should be for one minute to insure disinfection.
SUD said the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Resources in the Jackson Environmental Field Office and Nashville have been notified and made aware of this situation and this precautionary boil water notice.
