Because of the potential for rain this Saturday, the Hardin County Raise the Flag organization’s annual flag raising ceremony has been rescheduled.
Flag Day, which is officially on June 14, will now be recognized locally on Saturday, June 19, with a centralized flag ceremony at 11 a.m. It takes place at the flag pole at Tennessee Street Park in Savannah with assistance from members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Master of ceremonies for the event organized by Hardin County Raise the Flag is Savannah City Manager Garry Welch. Guest speakers are Hardin County Mayor Kevin Davis, Savannah Mayor Bob Shutt and state Sen. Page Walley.
A history of the flag will be presented by retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Joe Hurd, publisher of The Courier, and Nick Stokke, Hardin County Veteran Services officer.
A picnic including hot dogs, chips and drinks provided by Hardin County Tourism follows the flag ceremony at the park.
