Saltillo looks to annex property for riverfront residential development

Black line indicates the existing Saltillo corporate boundary. Red line denotes the proposed annexation area to be zoned River Residential-1.

A proposed annexation is on the Saltillo Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s agenda for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 4.
A public hearing is set for 6 p.m. at City Hall, immediately prior to the board meeting.
Saltillo Mayor Larry Lowery said the annexation area consists of 60-plus acres of vacant land fronting the Tennessee River.
He said the owner of the property, local businessman Jeff Wilkes, has requested the annexation for the development of single family detached residences.
Following the public hearing, the board is expected to vote on resolutions regarding the annexation and required plan of city services, and an ordinance to zone the property River Residential-1 (RR-1).
Lowery said if the commission approves the resolutions and ordinances Tuesday, a second and final vote on the matter will be held at the next regular monthly meeting on June 1.
