Jeffrey Jernigan (4-7-21) service 4-11-21
Jeffrey Keith Jernigan of Savannah, was born Jan. 10, 1964, at Hayti, Missouri.
He passed away on Wednesday, April 7, at Jackson, Tennessee. He was 57 years, 2 months and 28 days of age.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chief Warrant Officer Lee E. Jernigan (retired U.S. Army); maternal grandparents, Richard and Gladys James; uncles, Lt. Commander Charles James and Timmy James; aunt, Terri James Malone; and cousin, Jon Kennedy.
Jeffrey was a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Explorer Scouts, and he also worked as a deputy sheriff. Jeffrey graduated from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with an associates degree in criminal justice. Later, he went on to graduate from the Florida Corrections Academy. Jeffrey enjoyed watching sports and jumping out of airplanes. He also loved animals, especially dogs.
He leaves the following behind to cherish his memory: mother, Rebecca James Jernigan of Savannah; brother, Steve (Mary Carol) Jernigan of Virginia Beach, Virginia; aunts, Mary Ann (Larry) Hartsell of Kennett, Missouri, Alice Effner of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Dottie (David) Kennedy of Savannah, Georgia, Margie James of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and a host of other relatives, friends, and many special cousins and their families.
Graveside funeral services with military honors were held Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m., at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti, Missouri with Brother Doug Wahls officiating. Burial was also in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bryan Hartsell, Geoff Brothers, Steve Jernigan, Mary Carol Jernigan, Eddie James, and George and Reene Pace.
