Larry Glen Baker Sr., of Savannah, departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 11 days. He was born in Hardin County on Feb. 8, 1939, the son of the late Voyd Hancel and Velma Rhea Kennedy Baker. On Jan. 23, 1974, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Mitchell, who survives. Larry was a lifelong Hardin Countian and a member of Eureka United Methodist Church. He served honorably in the National Guard. In 1969, he went to work with his father at Baker & Baker Surveyors and continued to work there part-time while he worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Larry was employed with the Department of Transportation for 23 years and was chief inspector on Tennessee River Bridges in Savannah. He enjoyed yard work and gardening, and especially loved his grandchildren and doing whatever they wanted to do. Larry Glen Baker Sr. is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Mary Ellen Baker of Savannah; his children, Larry Glen Baker Jr. and his wife Lindy, Stanley G. Franks and Cherry Lynn Sullivan and her husband Jack, all of Savannah; grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Sullivan, Cody R. Franks, Cory R. Franks, Colton R. Franks, Kennedy Lynn Baker and Lyddie Beth Baker; and great-grandchildren, Reesi Loporto, Ella Grace Franks, Eliza Jane Franks, Grayson Whitlow Franks and Hooper Gordon Franks. Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Dennis Usner and Mike Moore officiating. Burial followed in Morris Chapel Cemetery at Morris Chapel.
