Van slams into Savannah Main Street storefront, driver transported by ambulance
A driver whose van slammed into a Savannah Main Street storefront at about 11:34 p.m. Sunday was transported to Hardin Medical Center with possible injuries, according to the Savannah Police Department.
The crash report states the vehicle, a 2004 Chevy, went off Main Street to the right, knocking down a utility pole and a small light fixture before going through the front of Main Street Gift Gallery across from the Hardin County Courthouse.
The driver, identified as Ashley M. Edmond, 41, of Savannah, told police he fell asleep and didn’t remember what happened.
Police said charges of DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain control are pending.
The building sustained significant damage.
