Student P-EBT food assistance program extended, cards for those who missed in spring also offered
The Tennessee Department of Human Services has announced it is extending its Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, or P-EBT, program into the fall semester by sending qualifying families a card they can use to buy food for their students who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hardin County’s Supervisor of School Nutrition Cheryl Cochran said Monday that this round of P-EBT cards is being mailed directly to families’ homes, at their last reported address. No registration by parents is necessary.
Because all Hardin County students qualify for free meals, all families with a student in any Hardin County school qualify for the P-EBT program.
These benefits can be used to purchase food at any establishment that accepts EBT, or online with Amazon and Walmart.
The department has also sent a P-EBT card for all families who did not register for the first round of the program to the last school those qualifying students attended in the spring for their parents to pick up.
Cochran said Hardin County Schools has been working to transfer cards to each student’s current school, for those who have changed schools such as going from elementary to middle school.
Families will need to provide valid identification to the school to pick up the cards. Any cards that aren’t picked up after 30 days will be returned to TDHS for disposal.
Designed to replace meals lost due to COVID-19 school closures, the first round of the program was for students registered in a HCS school during March, April and-or May.
The first round of P-EBT provides parents with $5.70 in benefits per student for each day that child qualifies.
The second round, or fall semester P-EBT, is for students registered in a HCS school from Aug. 3 – Sept. 30, and will provide parents with $5.86 in benefits per student for each school day that child missed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cochran explained that families of students registered as distance learners will count for that entire period, since they were not at school.
Students who have attended school traditionally will receive the daily benefit for days not in school during the hybrid schedule period, which was one week on, one week off.
When families receive their cards in the mail for round two of the P-EBT program, they will have to activate the card by phone using the instructions provided. Those with questions or difficulty activating the card can call the main HCS office at 925-3943.
This second opportunity for parents to receive P-EBT as well as make up for missed P-EBT benefits in the spring follows an application process that wrapped up in August with more than 500,000 children receiving benefits.
“Tennessee’s P-EBT program has already provided support to more than half of all public-school students in the state and we’re excited to give more families an opportunity to benefit,” said Tennessee Department of Human Services Commissioner Danielle W. Barnes.
I haven’t received my child peyton love p-ebt and I have asked the school if they received it and it still hasn’t came in the mailbox.

I have only recieved on p- ebt in mail just recently. I never knew thier was one befire this at the school to be picked up. My son has been remote since the start of school an is still remote .
i want to know is i am going to get the third round of food stamps for Denzell Palmer because he is still virtual. he go to Northumberland Hight school.
I have 3 kids, I’ve only received 1 for my son who is in high school and I had to pick up from the school but I have not received for my other 2 that are in middle school. Will there’s be mailed to me or to their school. Thank you
Ebt and December? Will there be p ebt in December
My son was enrolled last year and I didn’t know about the p-ept. Was he supposed to get benefits.
I have two teenage boys 14 and 16. They are enrolled at Camden Central High School, but have been completely virtual since we moved here and registered them October 1st. Will they get P-EBT benefits in December? If so does the card get mailed to our home, or will it go to the school?
I want to know did I have to sign up for my children to receive a p-ebt card for the fall? They received the first one last year for the months of -March, April, and May. We havent received one for the 2021 year. Will we receive one for this new year? I’d so when?

I was wondering I would receive benefits on my p ebt cards I received In the mail for my two boys
I only received the first one , and I got two boys I know it’s been hard on everyone during this pandemic but these other two you have given out that we haven’t recieved would really help us out being a single parent . This pandemic is making it hard , it was hard before. The P-EBT would really help.
