James “Jim” Effinger, 76, of Counce, died on Thursday, July 9. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He served as Army specialist with the Army for two terms in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Airborne Jump Wings (33 jumps), Good Conduct Metal Air Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He retired from Fedex after 25 years. He is survived by his wife Jamie Effinger; three children, Peter Effinger, Dawn Bettis and Jimmy Effinger; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves his step-children, Kathy Garrett and Ken Arledge; four step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Services were held on Monday, July 13, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, in Bartlett, Tennessee.
