Gerald Runyan (6-26-20)

Gerald Ray Runyan, 86, of Savannah, died Friday, June 26.

He was born in Avery, Texas, the son of the late Walter Ray and Mary Etta Hathaway Runyan. He was united in marriage to Mary Purdy Littlejohn, who survives.

Mr. Runyan served his country proudly in the United States Army for three years. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Prevention from the University of Oregon and had worked for the Beaverton Fire Department and Eugene Fire Department, both in Oregon. He later retired from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, where he was the Assistant Fire Marshal and Arson Inspector. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Beaverton, Oregon and attended Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Savannah.

In addition to his wife, Mary Runyan of Savannah; he is survived by his children, Angela Denise Runyan of Savannah,  and Steven R. Runyan of Portland, Oregon; one grandchild;  and sisters, Barbara Perrin of Texas and Kay Runyan of Oregon.

Other then his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Runyan.

Services were held on July 2  at 1 p.m. at Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church  in Savannah with Jason Estes and Kay Runyan officiating. Burial  followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery at McNairy County, Tennessee.
