Infant killed in crash near Saltillo
UPDATE, JULY 6– The Tennessee Highway Patrol on Friday clarified its report to state that the infant who died was in a child restraint device, but was not properly restrained.
INITIAL STORY– An infant was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Hardin County on June 26, the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed Thursday.
According to the THP fatality report, Kaniesha Holt, 28, of Saltillo, was driving a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser east on Tenn. 69. The vehicle traveled off the roadway, went down an embankment and hit a ditch.
A 1-year-old child and a child less than a year old were in the vehicle, and the younger child was killed. Neither child was in a car safety seat. The older child was uninjured. Holt was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured, the report says.
THP Public Information Officer Jena Eubanks said charges against Holt are pending. The crash occurred near Saltillo about a quarter mile from the intersection of Tenn. 421 and Tennessee 69, and was reported at 2 p.m.
The THP report did not identify the infant victim by name. An online obituary states that Holt is the mother of a 3-month-old boy, Matthew DeAndre Holt, who died on the day of the crash.
