CoreCivic: Correctional officer at Clifton prison assaulted, staff restore order

CoreCivic said Wednesday evening that a correctional officer at its facility in Clifton, Tennessee, was assaulted by two inmates this morning but was able to exit the area without serious injury.
According to a company statement, staff at the South Central Correctional Facility responded to a call for help in a housing unit at about 11:44 a.m. regarding an incident started by three inmates. This group of inmates incited about nine other inmates to join them.
CoreCivic said the inmates “created safety hazards by attempting to destroy facility property and refusing to comply with multiple verbal directives” from staff.
Staff at the privately managed state prison restored order with no serious injuries to inmates or staff reported as a result of the incident, the statement says.
CoreCivic said the Tennessee Department of Correction has been notified and that it will cooperate with the department’s investigation of the incident.

For nearly a week, Tennessee inmates at Core Civic’s South Central Correctional Facility, have been without water, unable to shower, use their sinks, and flush their toilets.

The efforts made by Core Civics staff to fix the problem has been very minimal, and non-successful in fixing the problem.

For the past few days, each inmate has been provided with two 16 oz. water bottles to compensate for the water/plumbing issues.

This treatment of the inmates, is cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of the 8th amendment “The Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishments.” and Tennessee law under T.C.A. 41-4-140 which states, in part; ” (a) The Tennessee corrections institute has the power and duty to:
    (1) Establish minimum standards for local jails, lock-ups and workhouses, including, but not limited to, standards for physical facilities and standards for correctional programs of treatment, education and rehabilitation of inmates and standards for the safekeeping, health and welfare of inmates. The standards shall be established by the Tennessee corrections institute and shall approximate, insofar as possible, those standards established by the inspector of jails, federal bureau of prisons, and by the American Correctional Association’s Manual of Correctional Standards, or such other similar publications as the institute deems necessary;”

South Central prison facility has several buildings where there is no air conditioning! This is inhumane treatment. They say it is on but the inmates are dripping wet with sweat! Not even a dog shiuld be treated this way!! They care nothing about these men. Yes they are there for a reason but they should not have to supper such! They had water issues the last few weeks which caused inmates to not be able ti shower or flush the toilets! Core Civic gets paid good money to take care of these people! I think some of the issues is targeting certain buildings and inmates. That is just wrong!!!!
