Coronavirus COVID-19 case confirmed in Hardin County

A resident of Hardin County has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, county Mayor Kevin Davis said Friday afternoon.
“This is not unexpected,” he said. “Your local officials have been preparing for and expecting this for weeks. We are coordinating with the Tennessee Department of Health and the health care community to make sure all Hardin County residents are protected.”
The local Health Department is reportedly working with the patient who will be quarantined.
Davis is urging residents not to panic, saying it is “important to remember that the vast majority of residents that contract this virus have a mild course of illness and recover quickly.”
He said anyone who is ill with respiratory symptoms should contact their doctor first – and not go to a hospital emergency room or any doctor’s office without calling first.
“We will continue to closely monitor this evolving situation and will adapt our response as appropriate,” Davis said.

I know people need their privacy during trying times but the public needs to know who they are in this situation. A lot of folks could avoid contracting this virus and maybe even stop it. We need to know who they are!

I thought they should give out names also but got to thinking about it . It would be unsafe for that person and their family the way people are acting but I do believe they should talk to all the people they have been around . How do they know this person hasn’t already given it to people !!!! So guess need to treat everyone as having it !!!

No You Do Not need their names. You are not going to get the virus from someone who has shown symptoms and therefore been tested and confirmed to have it. The last thing people who are frightened and panicked need is a target.

This is a privacy act that pertects people from knowing their names.thats a good thing right now.

With such sporadic testing, you need to assume everyone has it. It spreads so quickly if there is one confirmed, there are probably 100. Scapegoating one individual will not help and will hurt the community if you assume that one named person is contagious but everyone else isn’t.

They can’t share his/her name it’s literally a federal crime to do so.

When I called my doctor’s office in Pickwick the other day and asked if they had covid 19 testing the woman that answered the phone told me no. She told me they weren’t available from their supplier. I sure hope everybody is self quarantining like we are!

I absolutely any think that all flights should be canceled including bussed!!! I honestly do think the military should be brought in on this and cut off any entrances to other counties cities or states. This virus needs to quit spreading!!!

    • Chris on March 21, 2020 at 1:11 pm

That is crazy. Cut off other cities and counties? Energy and manpower needs to be used in other ways. Not trying to seal counties and cities off , like that will help. Get real!

I was told the person who is infected with this virus in Hardin County had flown in on an airplane as a contractor and was not from Hardin County…

NO One needs to know the NAMES of people who are sick with the virus. Please let them rest in recovery to heal.
What the community would really like to know is if they were in contact with individuals who have the virus. Are individuals who are ill with the virus cooking in a restaurant? Where were the local virus germs spread ? I think that’s the information the community is really asking to have knowledge about.
To my community ; remember that currency, coins and cards can have the virus on them too.

My 15 year old daughter has allergy/exercise induced asthma and a very low immune system. Plus, other health problems. She’s been sick for 5 day’s now. Severe congestion, constant coughing and difficulty breathing. With her history, I have to act quickly and get her into the doctors/hospital before it turns bad. I tried to get her PCP office to fill a few medications I knew she would need to fight off severe respiratory issues, like pneumonia setting in. That easily happens with her. They refused and made me bring her in. They didn’t even look her over good and still didn’t want to give her what she needed. I had to argue with the nurse practitioner whom saw her to get her albuterol refilled and to get a few steroids. She did not prescribe her a near enough strong enough dose, but I knew my daughter would definitely not get any better without at least a few steroids. She honestly needed a ZPac to keep her pneumonia free, but I wasn’t gonna keep going back and forth with the lady. I’m doing everything I possibly can for my daughter and she isn’t getting better. If she gets worse and I end up having to take her to the E.R. it will fall on her PCP office. You would think that a doctors office that is affiliated with Hardin Memorial Hospital would do their job right.. especially right now. It’s great they’re taking all these extra precautions with gloves and masks, but you also have to thoroughly take care of the patients you see.

Go the old fashion route; vaporizer or hot steamy bathroom, Vick salve and gargle with salt water. Maybe not as good as prescription meds bit they work. Tylenol for a fever.

    • Lori on March 29, 2020 at 8:17 pm

Actually Janet the old fashioned route is dangerous for asthma patients. My daughters asthma doctor said to not put a vaporizer in her room because it is not safe for asthmatics.
Sometimes it’s best to not give advice if you dont know enough on the subject.

      • Lori on March 29, 2020 at 8:20 pm

The same with the hot steamy bathroom…bad for asthma. Actually cold air is good to stop asthma symptons. There were several occasions where I had to take my daughter to the ER for asthma, and the cold air would actually stop the symptons before we got to the hospital.
Caffeine is the only home remedy for asthma that I am aware of. There may be more, but a vaporizer and a steamy bathroom are definitely not good for asthma patients.

I would just like to know if there are that many cases here in Hardin county Tennessee why this county has not been added to the county by county registry on tennessee.gov or on the Tennessee CDC site I just looked at it today March 23rd 20/20 and Hardin county is still not on that list.

  11. bingbong on March 23, 2020 at 10:47 am

how about a community name where this case is located? is it counce savannah, adamsville? they could release that info i would think

  12. Carolyn McAlpine on March 23, 2020 at 5:57 pm

If they could at least tell where the individual worked it would help. I have heard rumors that it was at the nursing home. I guess time will tell. Everyone needs to stay at home as much as possible for sure.

  13. Need to know on March 24, 2020 at 10:34 pm

I believe it is more comforting to at least know the places this person has been . Did they use any precautions and what part of Hardin County do they live. if they went to Memphis, or traveled, they were very discourteous to us all. It angers me that people are not heeding the warning about social distancing.

I know for a fact COVID has been spreading throughout Hardin County since at least JANUARY. My parents, my kids, and myself were ALL violently ill throughout January and almost to the end of February. I took my kids to the walk-in clinic in Savannah a number of times and thought it was a little strange. Kn each visit all of the toys in the childrens area were covered with plastic and signs everywhere. They read “Due to an unusually bad flu season please keep children from touching toys.” And they were handing out masks at the door and lobby and waiting areas. My kids came up with Strep three times and an “unknown respiratory viral infection” three times. My parents were horribly ill around the same time and my friends children were missing school as much as my children. This virus has BEEN here since the beginning of the year. Its dangerous. Please wear a mask and wash your hands. Many of the cases in Hardin Co haven’t been figured out because testing is not mandatory and just like me everyone “thought” this was just a particularly bad flu season. It’s not and the numbers aren’t accurate at all. Protect your loved ones..This is not over.
