Bobby “Gene” Butler (3-11-20) service 3-13-20

Bobby Gene Butler, age 87, of Morris Chapel, departed this life on Wednesday, March 11.
Gene was born on Jan. 13, 1933, in Saltillo, to the late Fletcher D. and Tina Lillie Dunavant Butler. He was united in marriage to Dora Dean Erwin on Aug. 1, 1951.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna Jackson of Morris Chapel; and a son, Chris Butler and his wife Sandra of Savannah; one grandson, Brandon Jackson and his wife Audrey of Jackson, Tennessee; and one brother, Raymond Butler and his wife Dot of Adamsville.
Gene graduated from Morris Chapel High School in 1951. He was well known as the service tech at Burt’s Furniture from where he retired in 2011 after over 30 years.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing softball. He also enjoyed traveling and watching his grandson play baseball. He spent many a night playing cards with the family.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Dean Erwin Butler; one sister, Irene Nixon; three brothers, Marvin, Holland “Frog” and James Butler.
Services were held on Friday, March 13, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Mike Moore officiating. Burial followed in Taylor Cemetery at Savannah.
