As floodwaters ebb, TVA to open Wharf Road on Friday

Wharf Road through the TVA campground on Thursday

TVA has slowly reduced water flow rates through Pickwick Dam over the last few days and the Tennessee River level at Savannah has dipped from just above major flood stage to its current upper-moderate flood stage level.
At 3 p.m. Thursday, TVA spokesman Scott Fiedler said that due to recent drier weather, TVA will be opening Wharf Road through the TVA campground just below Pickwick Dam from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Friday.
The road is to be open only to residents of the area, and TVA police will be on site to ensure only residents have access. Nearby Botel Lane is also expected open within several days.
The Tennessee River at Savannah is at just over 385 feel today at 2:15 p.m., down from just over 388 feet Saturday. Flow rates through the dam have decreased from around 350,000 cubic feet per second five days ago to currently just over 264,000 cubic feet per second. The flow rate is expected to fall another 10,000 cubic feet per second by Saturday.
